Illinois State Police in uniform stand solemnly at a memorial park. Emblem reads "Always Remember."

Each May, during National Police Week, we pause to honor the men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. It’s a time of reflection, remembrance, and deep gratitude—a time when communities across the nation come together to say: You are not forgotten.

At the Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation (ISPHF), every week is about honoring our heroes, but May holds special significance. It’s when we collectively shine a brighter light on those whose lives were cut short in service to others. As we prepare for National Police Week this year, we invite you to join us in remembering, honoring, and supporting those who continue to wear the badge.

Why It Matters

Behind every fallen officer is a story—a family left behind, a community forever changed, and a legacy that deserves to be remembered. The ISP Fallen Officers Memorial pays tribute to these brave individuals and keeps their memory alive through storytelling, ceremony, and education.

Whether it was a routine traffic stop or a high-risk operation, each of these men and women acted with courage, selflessness, and honor. Their names aren’t just etched into plaques—they're etched into our hearts.

How ISPHF Honors the Fallen

As part of our mission, ISPHF is committed to preserving the memory of Illinois State Police officers who gave their lives in service. Here’s how we do it:

  • Memorial park – A permanent tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice

  • Educational Outreach – Sharing stories of fallen officers with schools, visitors, and online audiences to ensure their legacy lives on.

  • Support for Surviving Families – Connecting with and supporting the families of those we've lost through memorial events and ongoing recognition.

Join Us in Honoring Their Legacy

The greatest gift we can give our fallen officers is to remember them—not just for how they died, but for how they lived. As we prepare for National Police Week, we invite you to stand with us in reflection and support.

Because behind every badge is a person. Behind every person is a story. And behind every story is a legacy that deserves to be honored.
