The most recent member of the fleet, and not quite yet “vintage,” is this 2014 Chevrolet Caprice formerly produced by Holden in Australia. You may still see some of these active on the roads of Illinois! This example features the livery design of Zach Kelly. The minimal design was produced for two primary purposes. One, to have a livery that could be applied by one radio tech in one hour. Two, to have a car that which panels could be replaced if damaged without interfering with the continuity of the livery, requiring the radio lab to piece out decal packages and align the markings, taking up precious installation time. For this, Kelly was nominated for a department award. The Caprice boasted remarkable acceleration capabilities thanks to its 6.0 liter LS power plant. Unfortunately, the rest of the vehicle’s technology was not as reliable as Chevrolet’s rowdy V8. It will not be long until the Caprice is but another memory of the ISP fleet. Regardless, we are fortunate to have preserved an example of this era of patrol history.
