Honoring Heroes at the First Annual Memorial Park Ceremony
The Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation was honored to host the First Annual Memorial Park Ceremony on May 6, 2026, in Springfield, Illinois. Held in honor of National Police Week, the ceremony brought together law enforcement, families, supporters, and community members in a shared moment of remembrance and gratitude.
Hosted at Memorial Park on E. Lawrence Ave, the event served as a powerful tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.
A Meaningful Day of Reflection
Throughout the ceremony, attendees gathered to honor the legacy of fallen officers whose courage and dedication continue to inspire generations. Moments of reflection, remembrance, and unity reminded everyone in attendance of the profound impact these heroes made through their service.
The First Annual Memorial Park Ceremony created an opportunity not only to remember those we have lost, but also to stand beside the families, friends, and fellow officers who carry their memory forward each day.
Jim Jackson honored the legacy of his great-uncle, Trooper Lory Price, the second Illinois State Police Trooper killed in the line of duty. Georgia Winson honored the life and service of her father, Corporal George Craggs. Michelle Hanneken honored the memory of her husband, Trooper Todd Hanneken.
The Illinois State Police Heritage Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to Jim, Georgia, and Michelle for sharing their stories and helping preserve the memory of these fallen heroes.
A Community United in Gratitude
The overwhelming support shown by attendees reflected the strength and compassion of the Illinois law enforcement community and the public it serves. Seeing everyone come together reinforced the importance of preserving the memory of those who gave everything in the line of duty.
Continuing the Commitment to Remember
“We, the living, are called to remember” served as a lasting message throughout the day, reminding all in attendance of the responsibility to carry forward the values of service, integrity, and courage.
Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped make the First Annual Memorial Park Ceremony a meaningful success.
